CONTACT LENSES
Contact Lens Exam
Thinking about trying contacts? Whether it’s for a special event, playing sports, or just wanting to ditch your glasses, we’re here to help you make the switch comfortably and safely.
At Dr. Hetal Patel & Associates, we guide you through everything you need to know to wear contact lenses the right way.
What Are Contact Lenses?
Contact lenses are medical devices that sit directly on the front part of your eye (the cornea) to correct your vision. Because they sit on your eye, it’s important to learn how to use and care for them properly.
Types of Contacts:
Soft lenses – the most common type, used for daily wear, sports, or screen time.
Daily disposables
Weekly disposibles
Biweekly disposables
Monthly disposables
Hard lenses (RGPs) – used for certain eye conditions or special vision needs.
Regid Gas Permeable (RGP)
Orthokeratology
Scleral Lenses
We’ll help you choose the best one for your lifestyle—whether you’re active, spend lots of time on screens, or have dry eyes.
Why You Need a Contact Lens Exam
A glasses prescription isn’t the same as a contact lens prescription. Contacts need to fit your eyes just right, so we do special tests to find your perfect match.
What We Measure:
Refraction – to get your correct contact lens power
Cornea size – to make sure the lens fits your eye properly
Pupil size – especially important for night vision
Cornea shape (keratometry) – where the contact lens rests
Tear film – a healthy tear layer helps the lens stay comfortable
The Fitting Process
Once we’ve picked a good option for you, we’ll teach you how to put them in, take them out, and care for them. You’ll go home with a trial pair to wear for a week.
Then you’ll come back for a follow-up so we can check the fit and vision. If needed, we’ll make adjustments and give you a new trial until everything feels just right.
